Living Room / Dining Room Carpet Removal

The day after our closing, I started the work of removing the carpet, starting with the living room and dining room. Here's a quick walk through of what's in store.

As you can see, the carpet is everywhere including the stairs to the attic and (not pictured) the family room. I didn't bother tackling the family room in this phase of the project because I didn't feel that it needed to be done in time for our move-in date.

Time to get started. I made sure to wear work gloves to avoid getting scrapes and cuts from the staples and blade. A mask to keep me from inhaling any dust from the carpet, padding and floor. Had plenty of fresh blades for the cutter and plenty of drinks to keep me hydrated.

A sharp blade made quick work out of the carpet. Just had to make sure that I cut them in strips, wide enough to make it easy for me to roll and take out.

Once done with the carpet, repeated the same process for the padding. The padding was so old, most of the foam were turning into dust. Some parts were adhered to the floor, besides the stapling that were on them. For the staples and the tack strips, I used a floor scraper with a long handle so that I wouldn't have to keep bending down to get them out.

That was it for the day. Have some more packing to do at the apartment then work for the rest of the week so I had to wrap it up for now.
