I was able to get out of work early today so as usual, I brought some more boxes of our stuff from the apartment to the house. I want to haul as much whenever possible to lessen the amount of boxes and trips that we need to make on the day we officially move.
Today's trip, my focus is on this oversized piece of our sectional which couldn't fit through any of the doors leading up to the living room. After scouring the web for possible solutions, I came to the conclusion that the only way to make this work is to temporarily "modify" the couch to make it fit through. Then put it back to as close as it's original form, once inside the living room.
I started by carefully removing what seems to be hundreds of staples from the underside of the couch so I can remove the bottom cover, fabric and padding to expose the frame.
I was able to identify a part of the frame that was easy to remove, which also helped flex a portion of it just enough to allow for me to squeeze the couch through the kitchen door.
It was attached with a ton of brad nails but I was able to force it off with the help of a small sledge hammer.
After successfully removing the piece, I was able to work it through the kitchen door and into the kitchen. I took this picture through the kitchen window, which I had to climb through in order to get into the kitchen.
I was able to muscle the couch through the tight corner into the kitchen. Here's a picture of it next to the fridge. It's almost touching the ceiling which is higher than the opening that I still need to get it through to get into the dining room.
After using my last bit of adrenaline to slide it through the dining room entry, I took a quick break and slid through the kitchen counter opening to get a better view of what's blocking it. It was the small stack of cardboard on the floor.
Afterwards, I was able to pull the couch through and started moving it over to more free space.
That was gonna be the extent of what I can do for the night. I was able to achieve my goal without suffering any catastrophic damage to both the house and the brand new couch. I was too tired from doing all this work all by myself and I needed to pick up a new piece of wood to replace the one I removed from the frame. For now, we'll wrap it up. But before I left, I setup some bug bombs around the house so we can make sure there aren't any "lingering guests" before moving day.
