After a week on the daily grind, and more packing at the apartment, I was able to stop by the house today to tackle the rest of the carpet in the rooms and hallway.
First up was the Master Bedroom. Started cutting up the carpet in manageable strips then rolled them out.
Part of the hallway was a quick one.
Took a little break before starting Bedroom 3, after changing the blade on the box cutter - it was starting to get dull. I'm thankful for the work gloves though. As dull as the blade felt, it still cut the glove instead of my hand. Make sure you take your time and not rush like I did.
It was pretty hot and humid that day and wearing a mask while working makes it feel extra hot. It was a necessary evil since the carpet padding and the old carpet was churning out a ton of dust.
Carpets finally rolled out of the bedrooms and hallway, time to repeat the process for the paddings.
Once the pads were gone, swept the lose debris and inspected the floors.
A quick juice break before tossing out the rolls of padding and carpet.
Final step was to bring out the floor scraper to pull out the carpet tack strips and any left over staples on the floor. The long handle sure was a big help specially since I've been overworking my lower back with all the cutting, rolling and carrying all day.
The work gloves were great too. These carpeting tack strips were littered with tons of sharp, rusty tacks that can do a number on your hands.
The big boss stopped by later that night to inspect my work and also apply some paint samples to see which ones she liked. My colorblindness makes me a bad decision maker when it comes to colors so I defer all color based decisions to her.
It was great that she was able to help me out with removing the stair railings as well. I never realized how heavy that metal piece was until we worked on it. It'll really help me out when I start working on removing the carpet on the stairs.
That's it for today. More cleanup to do at a later date. Then I'll tackle the stairs and hunt down more nails and staples along the way.
